Your Finish Line Is Waiting: Join the Upward Running Fall Challenge

By Upward Running • September 15, 2026

The Upward Running Fall Challenge begins September 28, 2026, with guided training for the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon. Runners and walkers of every experience level can follow a structured plan while receiving expert coaching, faith-based encouragement, and support from a nationwide Christian running community.

What if this fall became the season you finally started?

Maybe you have watched other people cross finish lines and wondered what it would feel like to earn one of your own. Perhaps you have dreamed about running a marathon, but the distance feels impossible. Maybe you want to complete your first 5K, move beyond the 10K, or prove to yourself that you are capable of finishing a half marathon. You may not consider yourself a runner yet, and that is perfectly okay.

The Upward Running Fall Challenge was created for you.

Beginning September 28, runners and walkers across the country will start training together for four different distances: the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon. Whether you are taking your first steps off the couch or chasing a goal that has lived in your heart for years, you can choose the distance that meets you where you are and begin moving forward one workout at a time.

“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” — Hebrews 12:1

There Is a Place for You at the Starting Line

Starting something new can feel intimidating, especially when the finish line seems far away. It is easy to believe that you need to be faster, fitter, or more experienced before you begin. But every runner starts somewhere. Every finish line begins with a first step, and you do not have to take yours alone.

The Upward Running Fall Challenge is designed for real people with real schedules, real responsibilities, and real doubts. You do not need to run a certain pace. You do not need years of experience. You do not even need to run every step. You simply need a willingness to begin.

Choose the 5K if you want to build an active lifestyle, return to running, or complete your first race. Step up to the 10K if you are ready to grow your endurance and take on a new challenge. Train for the half marathon if you want to discover just how strong and committed you can become. Choose the full marathon if you are ready to pursue a life-changing goal and experience the joy of accomplishing something you once thought was beyond your reach.

Four distances. Four different journeys. One community moving forward together.

More Than a Training Plan

A race may be the destination, but the most meaningful transformation often happens long before race day.

It happens when you complete a workout you almost skipped. It happens when you learn to keep going through a difficult mile. It happens when someone in the Upward Running community encourages you on a day when you are struggling to encourage yourself. It happens when your training becomes time spent in prayer, gratitude, and reflection.

That is what makes the Upward Running Fall Challenge different. This is not simply a collection of workouts or a countdown to race day. It is an opportunity to strengthen your body, deepen your faith, and become part of a community that believes every mile can have a greater purpose.

Inside the RunClub App, you will receive a structured training plan that guides you through your chosen distance one step at a time. The workouts are designed to help you build endurance gradually while making room for rest, recovery, and the demands of everyday life. You will also receive coaching, educational resources, faith-centered encouragement, and the support of runners and walkers pursuing their own goals alongside you.

When training gets difficult, and at some point it will, you will not have to face those moments by yourself. You will have a community ready to celebrate your progress, answer your questions, pray with you, and remind you why you started.

Progress, Not Perfection

You do not have to be the fastest person in the group to belong here. You do not have to complete every workout perfectly. You do not have to compare your pace, your progress, or your journey to anyone else’s.

You can walk. You can run. You can use a combination of both. You can adjust when life interrupts the plan and begin again when you miss a day. Success is not about being perfect. It is about continuing to show up.

Some weeks will leave you feeling strong and confident. Other weeks may test your patience and determination. Both are part of the journey. With every workout, you will learn more about perseverance, discipline, grace, and the strength God has already placed within you.

This challenge is not about proving your worth. It is about discovering what can happen when you faithfully use the gifts you have been given and trust God with the journey ahead.

Choose a Goal That Excites You

There is something powerful about placing a race on the calendar. Suddenly, the workouts have a purpose. The early mornings, difficult miles, and small daily choices begin leading somewhere.

Your graduation race can be an event near your home, a destination race you have always wanted to experience, or another finish line that is meaningful to you. What matters most is choosing a goal that makes you excited to begin.

Imagine standing at that starting line after weeks or months of preparation. Think about all the workouts you completed, the obstacles you overcame, and the moments when you chose to keep going. Then imagine crossing the finish line, not as the same person who began, but as someone stronger, more confident, and more aware of what faith and perseverance can accomplish.

Whether that finish line is 3.1 miles or 26.2 miles away, your achievement matters. Your journey matters. Your story matters.

Your Fall Story Starts September 28

A new season is an invitation. It is an opportunity to leave behind the belief that you cannot and begin discovering that, with the right guidance and support, you can.

You can become more active. You can build endurance. You can return to running after time away. You can complete your first race. You can pursue the distance that has always frightened and excited you at the same time.

You do not have to see the entire path today. You only have to take the next step.

The Upward Running Fall Challenge begins September 28, with training options for the 5K, 10K, half marathon, and full marathon. Choose your distance, download the RunClub App, and become part of a nationwide faith-centered community that will be beside you from your first workout to your final finish line.

This fall, do not simply watch someone else chase a dream. Give yourself permission to pursue your own.

Your plan is waiting. Your community is ready. Your finish line is closer than you think.

It is time to begin.
